Is Oat Drink suitable as a milk substitute for someone who needs a low phosphate and / or low potassium diet, for example for someone with a renal condition?
Oat Drink has significantly lower electrolytes that cow’s milk. Typical levels are:
- Cow's milk (semi-skimmed): 161mg potassium per 100ml and 97mg phosphate per 100ml
- Provitamil Oat Drink: 24.3mg potassium per 100ml and 14.4mg phosphate per 100ml
This means that Provitamil Oat Drink would be a suitable alternative for a renal patient who has been advised to follow either a low potassium or low phosphate diet.
